LAND OF SMILES ICE HOCKEY CLASSIC 2011 TOURNAMENT RULES 
The Referee-in-Chief has the right to rule on any matter regarding the tournament. This includes on-ice and any misconduct inside the arena. All incidents will be reviewed by the Tournament Director and Referee-in-Chief. The incident will be reviewed and made before the player’s next game.

  1. All teams must sign a waiver form and also submit their rosters before the tournament begins.
  2. Teams will play a minimum of 4 games.
  3. Points will be awarded as follows:
    2 points for a regulation win or overtime win
    1 point for a regulation tie
    0 points for regulation loss

  4. Round robin play will consist of (3) 14-minute periods. Warm ups are 4 minutes. In between periods we will have 1-minute break. If there is a 2 goal difference with TWO minute remaining stop time will apply.
    If the game ends in a tie there will be 4 minute sudden death overtime 4 on 4.
    The last 30 seconds will be stop time in the overtime period
    All penalties from regulation will carry over to the overtime period
    Teams will not switch ends and we will start immediately
    NO timeouts during round robin play (one time-out allowed for the qualifying and playoffs)
    The netting around the rink is live so when the puck hits the netting the game continues.
    The center red line will not be in play during the tournament.
    Icing is from behind the blue line, no center line will be used
    Delayed off-sides are in effect, (the attacking team can clear the zone to clear a delayed off-side)
    No body contact is allowed. Slap shots are allowed. When a shot hits the goalie’s mask the referee will automatically stop play.
    No players may play on two different teams in same conference unless the Referee-in-Chief approves. If a player chooses to play in two different ...conferences it will be allowed (however Referee-in-Chief and Tournament Director will monitor so called “Ringers” in the Recreational Division --which will not be allowed)
    All rules of this tournament will be equivalent to the Canadian Hockey Association rules

  5. Penalties for all teams in Round Robin Play and Playoffs
    3 minute minor penalty
    5 minute major penalty
    10 minute misconduct

    Any major for fighting will result in ejection from the tournament Any high sticking infraction that draws blood (accidental or not) result in a major penalty and a game misconduct. This is an automatic call for the referees.

    *Note Referee-in-Chief will review all incidents and may over-turn the game misconduct If ANY 3- infractions i.e.-(high-stick, slashing, cross-checking etc.) have been assessed to any one player, that player will receive an automatic game ejection for the remainder of that game.
    *If the goaltender flips the puck over the boards in their own end it will be a delay game call

  6. Suspensions- All suspensions are at the discretion of the Referee-In-Chief. The Captain will be notified as to the player’s suspension by the referee at the end of the game or before the player’s next game. Any team playing with a player that has not satisfied his/her suspension infraction will forfeit all games from the point of the original suspension.

  7. All Major penalties will result in the player receiving an automatic game misconduct and game suspension for their next game. Upon review of the incident by the Referee-in-Chief, more games may be assessed.

  8. Teams will qualify for playoffs based on total points in round robin play. In the case of a tie in the standings, the tie breaker procedures are as follows:
    1 Points (2 points for a win)
    Most wins
    Head to Head record
    Goals against (least)
    Least penalty minutes
    Goal Differential
    Goals for

  9. Playoffs and Championship games will consist of (3) 14-minute periods for all divisions. Warm up 4 minutes. The last two minutes will be stop time with a 2-goal differential.
    If the game ends in a tie there will be a 5 minute 4 on 4 sudden death period for all playoff-games and Championship games.
    If the game is still tied the Wild Card, Quarters and Semi’s will go to a Best of 3 shootout. No player shall shoot twice until everyone who is eligible has shot.
    Each team will be given 3 shots, unless the outcome is determined earlier in the shootout, if tied after 3, the shootout will proceed to a single -elimination sudden death format.
    A coin toss will determine who shoots first (winner of coin toss get choice when to shoot)
    In the Championship game we will add a 3 on 3, 4-minute sudden death overtime, before the shootout.
    One time out is allowed in the playoffs (30 seconds)

    *No verbal abuse towards the referees will be tolerated. The only players on the ice who are allowed to speak with the officials will be the Captains or Assistant Captains. Please note verbal abuse towards the referee may result in a penalty and if severe suspension.
